What are the Factors Affecting the Bending Accuracy of Sheet Metal Workpiece?

In recent years, with the massive application of sheet metal stamping processing technology, bending workpiece has become the most important sheet metal processing method, and the accuracy of bending processing has become an important parameter to measure the processing quality of workpiece. In order to improve the bending accuracy of sheet metal bending workpiece, I will analyze the main influencing factors affecting the bending accuracy:

Influence one: machine flexural deformation

In high precision workpiece bending processing, the deflection deformation of the machine tool is a factor that must be considered. Influenced by the bending machine’s own structure, its working range as a whole shows a tiny curvature, resulting in the slider not being uniformly active in the horizontal direction, with a certain gap between the recorded value and the actual displacement, and a large value in the middle part, which leads to a change in the angle in the length direction when bending processing, resulting in a problem of too large an angle in the middle, affecting the accuracy of bending processing.

Impact 2: Unevenness of the sheet metal

In sheet metal processing, the sheet to be processed is considered as a homogeneous body with the same physical properties and thickness in all directions. However, in reality, there is some variation in the thickness and uniformity of the sheet, which has an impact on the bending accuracy of the sheet. This factor is most obvious in the case of gap bending, which will cause the actual displacement direction of the upper slider to shift from the direction of travel, resulting in a certain angular error.

Impact III: Rebound

As we all know, sheet metal processing has rigidity, and after the mechanical effect of sheet metal processing is withdrawn, there will be a certain magnitude of rebound, resulting in the angle of bending lower than the design value. For this problem, when sheet metal processing is carried out, “over-bending” is required to allow for a certain amount of springback. However, due to the material inhomogeneity and the uncertainty of the force on the workpiece, it is difficult to estimate the amount of springback accurately, and it shows a disorderly and discrete distribution, which affects the accuracy of the final bending angle.

Influence four: workpiece unfolding material calculation accuracy

In the design of the workpiece, people mainly design the size of the workpiece, on the basis of which the size of the workpiece unfolded material is calculated. However, the size of the workpiece formed after the bending process of different materials and shapes of the workpiece unfolded material is different. In addition, the workpieces need to be cut by shearing machine, and there is also a certain error in the cutting. These two aspects lead to a certain difference between the actual size of the unfolded workpiece and the expected value, which affects the final dimensional accuracy of the workpiece.

Sheet metal bending is an important method of sheet metal processing, and its processing accuracy largely determines the manufacturing quality of the processing manufacturing industry, so it should be a key consideration.
